The Taliaferro Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was organized
on October 18, 1912, and chartered on January 22, 1913.
Yes! We are over 100 years old!!
The chapter was named for Lt. Nicholas Taliaferro, ancestor of Sophia Higgins McTamany (Mrs. John W.), organizing regent. Nicholas Taliaferro was born at Snow Creek, Spotsylvania County, Rappahannock, Virginia, October 30, 1757. He entered the Continental Army on August 15, 1777, and was taken prisoner at Charleston,
May 12, 1780. Mr. Taliaferro was later exchanged and served until the close of the Revolutionary War.

"Fifty odd years ago a little band of patriotic women met and founded the National Society of DAR. Now we have chapters in every one of our 48 states, in Alaska, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Philippine Islands, China, Cuba, England and France. It is impossible to predict all that the future holds for our Daughters. To them we pass on the heritage that was ours, to them the honor and glory of passing on to succeeding generations."
